The second place of the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers failed to win on Sunday falling against the Washington Wizards 80-77. The Wizards played in great way and outplayed the Cavs in rebounds 52 over 35. The Wizards were aggressive since the very start and their desire for a win after a two-game losing streak, gave Washington what they deserved, the victory. Lebron James with his unstoppable talent tried to help his team but even with his 30 points and 10 assist, it wasn’t enough to get the triumph. The Wizards were more physical and superior in the paint, and their second shot opportunities killed the Cavs’s defense.

Since the beginning of the game, the Wizards were commanding in the score by leading to a 26-23 in the first quarter. In the first part of the second quarter, Washington kept the advantage 43-32; however, the Cavs battled back at the end of the quarter and decreased the Wizards advantage to only four points 47-43 at halftime. During the first half Lebron James scored 17 points and had 7 assists while Butler helped the Wizard team with 15 points; both shooting over 60%.

In the third quarter, Washington had a run of 12-2 to wrap a lead of 14 points 68-54. In this quarter the Wizards’ defense controlled James scoring position and his first two points were almost 5 minutes after the initiation of the quarter. Despite all these difficulties, the Cavaliers came back and tied the game with one minute left 77-77 in the fourth quarter. However, a jumper shot of Antawn Jamison with only 10.5 seconds left, gave the lead to Washington 79-77.  In the next possession Lebron James tried to make a play at the buzzer but was stopped by a whistle calling a traveling violation and that way the hope for Cleveland to win the game was over. At the end, Butler closed the victory with a free throw and a final score of 80-77 in favor of Washington.

The Cleveland super star Lebron James expressed at the end of the game that “One thing you can’t control is making shots every game. But you can control the defense. Holding a team to 41 percent shooting, that’s better than our season average. It was their rebounding, their second-chance points that killed us. They did a good job of outworking us today.”

The best scorers for the Cavaliers were Lebron James with 30 points and 10 assists, then Mo Williams with 13 points and Anderson Varejao with 10 points and 10 rebounds. For the Wizards, Antawn Jamison contributed with 26 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Baron Butler with 19 points and 7 rebounds and finally Dominic Mcguire with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Even with this negative result, the Cleveland Cavaliers still hold the second best record in the Eastern Conference with 27 wins and 6 loses. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards are in the last place with only 7 wins and 25 loses. The next game for Washington will be at Orlando on Tuesday, January 6th, whereas Cleveland will play at home against Charlotte on Wednesday, January 7th.
